De Musset’s play, based on a 12 line poem which was in turn inspired by a real life event when De Musset became obsessed by his neighbour and would spend his days looking at her through her window, is a delicate, moving, erotic, funny and short battle of the sexes. The indolent, bored and brittle Marquise receives the nervous and besotted Baron into her salon and what follows is a searching, surprising and thrilling clash of minds and hearts with a twist!

In collaboration with the Osborne Studio Gallery in Knightsbridge, SW1, the play was performed amongst the gallery’s exhibits.

“Martin Parr is right on the money in his direction, doing justice to De Musset’s sharp and witty dialogue with a precise and attentive eye. Each line and every moment has been thought through so as to deliver a piece that excels in acknowledging the subtle intricacies of the text and brings honesty to the more absurd moments without once becoming over-indulgent”
